In 2016 I was involved in a serious accident and suffered a traumatic brain injury. The following months were spent in the care of loved ones and doctors while undergoing daily cognitive therapy to recover.

When I was able to sit and produce music again, I found it nearly impossible to recognize timing, rhythm and musical keys. I didn’t have the ability to conceptualize music before I wrote it. I discovered that I would have to teach myself to make music again, almost from nothing.

What followed was a year of writing as many musical ‘sketches’ as I could. The challenge was to relearn technical skills I’d forgotten, try to retrain my ears to hear music again and develop new imagination that I could draw on to continue giving a voice to the music in me.

The Mnemosyne project is the collected works from that musical journey. None of the songs are finished, but the project was a success. I found the music again.
